2000 Champion
(Broome/Savage) Picked Up Where He Left Off Last Year; Wins Season Opener
CIFCA kicked off its 17th season with a record
turnout of funny cars at the Sacramento Funny Car Fever. 18 teams showed from 4
western states, resulting in a stout 16-car show. Jimmy Scott of Fallbrook CA
qualified #1 with a 7.53.
Pete Ortiz jr. won the Perma-Cool Burnout Challenge in Guy
Gloudemans flopper; Gary
Kortz pocketed the Enderle Quick Reaction bucks.
The final came down to Mike Savage behind the wheel of Jim
Broome's Olds and the Good Vibrations of Jim Maher. These two CIFCA champs gave
the fans a close run. Maher left first with a very slight advantage (.435 -
.445). The two were glued together with Savage pulling ahead by mid track and
crossing the stripe first with a victorious 7.52 to a 7.56.
