The Return of CIFCA
The California Independent Funny Car
Association (CIFCA) announces the return to
West Coast competition and exciting
side-by-side battles, entering its 31st
Anniversary year announcing a 2015 return
with great sponsor support and
participation.
James Maher, son of former
CIFCA president Jim Maher, takes over at the
helm of the association staging an excellent
30th Anniversary
Reunion Race at Sacramento Raceway in 2014
where nine funny cars raced in an eight-car
show. Maher was greeted with outstanding
racer participation, an overwhelming
response and a desire for CIFCA’s return to
formal competition. When asked about
accepting the position, Maher responding, “I
couldn't be more excited and humbled to
assume this position, following in my
father’s footsteps, I do this with great
pride.”
Competition requirements are
simple: any year flip-top style fiberglass
body, gasoline or alcohol for
fuel, superchargers and turbochargers are
accepted and on un-blown applications -
nitrous is permitted. There is no weight
minimum and no cubic inch restriction, with
open qualifying racing will be heads-up on a
7.50 elapsed time index, and deep staging is
permitted. An NHRA or IHRA license is

The Association’s main
objective is to provide fun, affordable and
safe funny car racing for drag racers.
Primarily, CIFCA consists of blown alcohol
funny cars raced by professional showmen who
compete for cash and points at regional
races in the western United States. They all
compete for fan attention with smoky
burnouts; close side-by-side racing and
personal interaction, close-up in the pits.
CIFCA will soon be announcing
its sponsored programs, bonus and
contingency programs.
