CIFCA's 30th Anniversary Reunion Race Results! Sacramento Raceway Park - Sept. 12 & 13th, 2014 Click Picture Above to View Ladder & Results Full Video Recap The California Independent Funny Car Association had their first CIFCA race with their new President, James Maher. The race was held at Sacramento Raceway’s 45th Annual Governors Cup. Nine CIFCA funny cars showed up to race and one came out to display. Robert Joy brought his funny car all the way from Washington, he was one of the first CIFCA members 30 years ago! The nine drivers that showed up were: Ron Ward, Kevin Sarginson, Harvey Williams, Andre Pegues, Joe Powell, Bobby Sanguino, Mike Troxel, Chris Morel, and Dan Whiteman.   On Friday two CIFCA drivers made test hits before qualifying, Chris Morel, and Mike Troxel both took advantage of the test and tune. Mike Troxel went out about 1000ft and coasted to a 7.52. Chris Morel made a hit but then broke the clutch pedal. The team was thrashing to get it fixed before Q.1 but they weren’t able to do so. Around 6pm Friday night seven CIFCA drivers made a hit, Andre Pegues and Chris Morel both sat that session out. Mike Troxel ended up qualifying #1 on Friday with a 7.6063 over Kevin Sarginson’s 7.6069. Mike Troxel took home the $100 cash bonus from Mike’s Z Shop. On Saturday Chris Morel decided he wanted to make a test and tune before qualifying session two, just to make sure they fixed their problem. So they ran after the Exhibition Cars, and they only were clocked to the 1000ft. All the exhibition cars were running to 1000ft and the track didn’t know he was just testing for CIFCA. They ran a 5.88 to the 1000ft and the car seemed fine. Round 2 of qualifying was original set for 1:30pm but because round 2 of qualifying is when CIFCA does their burnout contest the track pushed it back to 5pm. Mike Troxel and Joe Powell came out first. Mike did a pretty sweet burnout to get the crowd going. Bobby Sanguino and Chris Morel came out after them with sweet side by side burnouts, but unfortunately for Chris the Clutch pedal got stuck and he had to shut it off. Bobby Sanguino went out to the 1000ft and pulled the shoots hoping to slow it down enough for 7.50. Unfortunately for him he ran a 7.496! Just 0.004 shy of that 7.50 number! He ended up qualifying 6th.  Tony Trimp and Dan Whiteman came out next, both cars did descent burnouts. Dan Whiteman ended up shutting off on the startling line, and Tony Trimp went on to run a 7.56 which was good enough for the #1 spot! Tony Trimp with the rough-n-ready team ended up collecting the $100 bonus from XRP inc. Andre Pegues came out next and set low ET with a 6.94 which was good enough to take home the $100 bonus from IMI Hi Torque. Q.2 ended with Ron Ward and Kevin Sarginson. Ron Ward did his burnout first and it was a half-track burnout! The crowd was cheering and most were thinking Ron had won it, then Kevin Sarginson upsets him with a 700ft burnout and the crowd went wild! It was a stellar performance by both drivers but the crowd voted for Kevin Sarginson. Kevin ended up the burnout contest winner and taking the $100 cash bonus from Mike’s Transmissions. Chris Morel was the only car to not qualify going into round 1 of eliminations.   Round 1 of eliminations started off with Mike Troxel vs Andre Pegues, and it was the closest race of day, both drivers pedaled on the top end to cut their ET’s down. Mike Troxel ended up with the win light over Andre by 0.0665. This win won Mike the $100 cash bonus for the Margin of Victory Award from Mears Mazda & Volvo. Kevin Sarginson and Bobby Sanguino came out next, and Kevin ended Bobby’s day earlier. Ron Ward and Dan Whiteman came out next, Whiteman did his burnout first and Ron struggled to get the car started. They finally got it lit but the car died on the burnout. Then Dan Whiteman was going into stage and the track shut him off. There was something or someone on the end of the track. The track declared Dan Whiteman the winner, Dan said he’d take luck over skill any day. The next cars out were Joe Powell and Tony Trimp, Joe Powell cut a .021 light and was out in front until he blew the burst panel, and fortunately for him Tony Trimp broke out with a 7.42. The Finals. Due to Sacramento Raceway’s Curfew of 10pm (which they actually extended to 11pm for the Governor’s Cup) CIFCA was unable to have their final round. CIFCA was prepared for this and decided in the semi-final that the winner of the event would go to the driver with the best package. During the semi’s Mike Troxel came out first and he was suppose to race Joe Powell, but Joe Powell broke. Andre Pegues was the alternate. Mike beat Andre again but this time he ran a 7.53 with a 0.057 light! Mike won the Good Vibrations Motorsports best package on that run. The final pair was Kevin Sarginson vs Dan Whiteman. Kevin left on Dan and in a typical semifinal race he most likely would’ve lifted early because Dan Whiteman got out of the groove about half track, but in this case Kevin ran it out the back door hoping to beat Mike’s package. Though Kevin broke out with a 7.44 handing the win over to Dan who ran a 9 second pass. The result Mike Troxel the winner, Dan Whiteman Runner Up, Kevin Sarginson 3rd, and Joe Powell 4th.
