Jim Scott crowned Sacramento Governor's Cup champ

Seventeen CIFCA teams showed up for the 32nd annual Governor's Cup. This race was the sixth stop on the DragParts.com sponsored series and resulted in some major upsets. Adam Sorokin qualified Dave Smith's Firebird to the top spot with a near perfect 7.501. Tony Rishton won the Perma-Cool Burnout Challenge. Both would be quarterfinal casualties.

Jim Scott would make his first final round appearance of the season against Jim Maher. Scott's trek to the final began with a red light gift from Randy Smith in the first round. Another red light from Greg Kramer would give Team Scott a semi-final date against Bob Szabo. Scotty clocked a victorious 7.72 while Szabo tagged the guardrail.

On the other side of the ladder, Maher was battling the top point's leaders. Maher's first round win over Sean Dale gave the Good Vibrations team the CIFCA points lead. During the quarters, Maher padded his lead with a win over 3rd place Steve Tryon. His .416 light earned him the Enderle Quick Reaction Time bucks. The Good Vibrations team then got revenge on Mike Hilsabeck's Arizona Thunder during the semi's with a 7.63 - 7.66 victory (.016 seconds mov).

This set the stage for the final. Scotty got the jump off the line and never looked back as the Team Scott Trans Am recorded a consistent 7.71 and claimed the Sacramento Governor's Cup crown. Quite an achievement considering this was only Scotty's third race driving a clutch car.

Special thanks to Napa Auto Parts for their support and to the Sacramento Raceway staff for running a well organized and timely show.
