Funny Car Fever & Nostalgia Reunion
Trimp Takes Down Troxel
The California Independent Funny Car Association (CIFCA)
presented by Good Vibrations Motorsports, kicked off their
second race of the season at Sacramento Raceway Park April
11-12, 2015. 8 CIFCA Funny Cars showed up for the Funny Car
Fever & Nostalgia Reunion. Mike Troxel, the 30 th Anniversary
CIFCA Reunion Champion, was System One’s #1 Qualifier with a
7.512 on a 7.50 index. Tony Trimp, the driver of Harvey
William’s “Rough N Ready Racing” team, took home Aeromotive Fuel
System’s Revolving Qualifier Award by qualifying #2 with a 7.55.
In the second round of qualifying Kevin Sarginson and Ron Ward
both did stellar halftrack burnouts. Sarginson ended up winning
Mike’s Transmission burnout contest.
Final Eliminations started off with Ron Ward (the #4 qualifier
and Good Vibrations Motorsports quick reaction time winner)
against Bob Sanguino (#8 qualifier). Sanguino had some trouble
on the starting line getting the car fired up and did a short
burnout as Ward waited patiently. On the top end, Ward ran 7.475
handing the win over to Sanguino’s 8.41 and Sanguino took home
the Cogswell Marine & Motorsport’s Lucky Dog Award. Trimp sent
Dan Whiteman packing & earned the Ryan Hunter’s SCE Bounty
Hunter Award. Troxel ended Shaun Bryan’s day early. Andre Pegues
ended up having a bye run which he took it down about 500ft and
banged the blower! Pegues would not be able to return for the
semi-finals.
Semi-Finals began with Troxel taking on Ward, “the Urban
Legend”. Ward, an alternate for Pegues, also had some trouble
allowing Troxel to breeze into Finals. On the other side of the
ladder Trimp left Sanguino on the starting line with .013 light
to Sanguino’s .193 and held on for the win. Going into the
finals, Troxel’s 7.855 was good enough for lane choice over
Trimp’s 7.863.
The Final was a close race as they were pretty much dead even
off the line. Trimp’s .105 to Troxel’s .106 light, as Trimp was
out in front he dumped the chutes about 1100 feet to watch
Troxel fly bye and take the stripe. Fortunately for Trimp,
Troxel broke out with a 7.46 to Trimp’s 7.52! The “Rough N Ready
Racing” team took home the Total Seal’s “Seal the Deal Award,”
The Blower Shop’s best overall package, and a ReplayXD Action
Camera along with their first CIFCA win at Sacramento’s Funny
Car Fever & Nostalgia Reunion.
Special thanks to Dave Smith at Sacramento Raceway for allowing
CIFCA to be a part of their Funny Car Fever and to Fuel
Injection Enterprises for supporting CIFCA’s contingency
program. Thank you to Diego Zuniga, Jessica Vargas, Brian
Chavez, Darr Hawthorne, Jim & James Maher for keeping the CIFCA
program running smoothly.
